Gear Up Virginia: photo of college students

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a program funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).

The goals of the GEAR UP Virginia (GUV) program are to increase academic performance and college preparation; increase the number of students in rigorous courses; increase knowledge of college and financial aid among students and their families; improve college readiness rates; and increase college enrollment rates of GUV students.  The 2014-2021 GUV cohort participants will be eligible to receive a one-time, one-term scholarship to use during college.

For more information regarding the GEAR UP Program please contact the GEAR UP Coordinator(s) at your child's high school.

GUVA Family Survey

Student Survey: English | Spanish Parent Survey: English | Spanish

Above are the links to our student and parent surveys for this academic year (both in English and Spanish).  We are aiming to get 80% student completion and 50% parent completion.

In the past, GEAR UP students have taken the survey during a class period they all have, i.e. P.E./health or English 10, to ensure high participation.  We are encouraging all parents and students to complete the survey as soon as possible.

Paper copies are available upon request. All surveys should be completed by March 30, 2018.
