Health Insurance Premium Holiday

Current employees paying premiums for one of the NNPS Anthem health insurance plans will be granted a three-month health insurance premium holiday.

Deductions for health insurance premiums and the wellness credit will be suspended for the December, January and February paychecks. Health insurance premium payments and credits will resume with the March paychecks.

The premium holiday is possible because health insurance claims for active employees have been better than anticipated. Employee health insurance premiums and the School Board contribution are used to cover the cost of health care claims. The premium holiday is a way to adjust the premium to better reflect the cost of health care claims submitted. The premium holiday benefits all active employees who pay premiums for health insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a premium holiday being provided?
NNPS offers a self-insured health care plan. Claims are paid using the employee and school board portion of the premium. Premiums are determined based on expected health claims. Health care claims for active employees have been better than anticipated. The premium holiday is a way to adjust the premium to better reflect the cost of health care claims submitted. The premium holiday benefits all active employees who participate in NNPS Anthem health care plans.

Why will my $50 Wellness Credit stop?
Each month the full employee premium is deducted from your paycheck.  For bi-weekly employees, this is split into two payments.  From that premium, $50 is added back to your check for the Wellness credit.  Bi-weekly employees receive 2 installments of $25 each for the Wellness Credit.  If the premium is not taken, there is nothing to use to pay back the Wellness Credit.

I’m enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) as employee only and I participate in the Wellness Program.  My premium is $0.  Do I benefit from the premium holiday?
The premium holiday is only for employees who are paying a premium. No one is receiving additional money; just a three-month suspension of the premiums they pay.

I don’t have health insurance with NNPS. Do I get something?
No, only health care plan participants who pay a premium will receive the premium holiday.

What about dental and vision?
Dental and vision are separate plans. The premium holiday only applies to the NNPS Anthem health plans.

How much will I save?
You will only save the amount that you typically pay.

I am a Dual Spouse (both spouses are employed by NNPS).  Will we save as much as employees that are not dual spouse?
You can only save the amount that you typically pay.  As a dual spouse, you pay less for each premium.

Will this be provided every year?
No, this is intended to be a onetime adjustment.
