WARWICK HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCES SPEECH AND DEBATE TEAM WINNERS

(October 1, 2009) - Warwick High School congratulates the following students for a job well done at the 2009 Wake Forest University National Earlybird Tournament in Winston-Salem, NC.  The tournament took place September 11 through September 13.  Over 110 schools and over 1000 students from across the nation were in attendance.   Abigail Marshall, senior was an octofinalists (top sixteen) in junior varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Christopher Middleton, sophomore was a semifinalist (final four) in junior varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

On September 26, 2009 the Warwick team competed in the 2009 King George High School Foxes Way Tournament in King George, VA.  Ten schools participated in this tournament.  Warwick congratulates the following students: 

• Kasey Sease, senior - 1st place - Lincoln-Douglas Debate

• Tatiana Connell, sophomore - 1st place - Humorous Interpretation

• Catherine Goggins, junior & Alex Hojnicki, junior - 2nd place - Public Forum Debate

• Maxim Neumann, senior - 3rd place - Student Congressional Debate

• Andrew Johnson, senior - 4th place - Prose Reading

• Michael Jordan, senior - 5th place - Lincoln-Douglas Debate
  

Warwick High School will host the Tidewater Forensics League Thursday, October 8, 2009.  This will feature public & private high-schools from the Tidewater’s sevencities and from the Eastern Shore.

The team is a member of the Catholic Forensics League.  It is coached by Spanish, AVID, and Debate teacher Deon Garner.  Garner is the 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year for Warwick High.   For more information about the team or if you wish to become a financial sponsor of the team, please email Deon Garner at deon.garner@nn.k12.va.us.
