Teams, students advance to state archery tournament

(02/01/2018) -The archery teams from BC Charles Elementary, Gildersleeve Middle and Menchville High School have advanced to the state archery tournament in Doswell, Virginia on March 10, 2018. Along with school teams, several students qualified for the state tournament based on their individual scores: Joshua Barnhart, Brian Kilmartin, Hudson Smith, Gabrielle Gauthier, Ariana Robertson and Kai-Ya Moore from Richneck Elementary; and Aaron Lin from Dozier Middle.

The regional tournament, held on Friday, January 26, 2018, had sixteen Newport News public schools' teams compete at An Achievable Dream Middle and High School. The tournament is a National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) state qualifier. NASP is taught as a part of the middle and high school physical education curriculums and as an after-school program at the elementary level.
