Fare Share, Menchville High School's Lead4Change team, was named a Grand Prize Winner in the Lead4Change Challenge, a yearly challenge that offers awards to schools whose students demonstrate leadership, community action and community impact.

The Menchville team engaged in several diverse service projects to benefit their community during the 2018-19 school year including food drives and anti-bullying campaigns. This is the team's fifth year with Lead4Change, during which time they've donated over 25,000 pounds of food, raised nearly $15,000 for various causes, created and sustained a school food pantry and backpack program, cultivated a school garden, raised awareness for a variety of issues, and created educational videos, books and more. The Fare Share team has been awarded $51,000, which has been given to localnon-profits THRIVE Peninsula and the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. This is the team's second grand prize award in five years. The team presented the $10,000 award check to THRIVE Peninsula during an award ceremony in September.

Lead4Change (formerly Lead2Feed) is a national organization that supports student leadership development and civic action across all 50 states. The Lead4Change Student Leadership Program guides students through lessons to develop a service project that addresses a need in their community while teaching valuable skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication and collaboration.
