Saylor's role in the morning is to unveil a joke and read the daily list of birthdays as one of several Morning Show student personalities who inform the school community of that day's events, activities and lunch menu. This sets the tone for a day filled with positive interactions as she enjoys making friends in all grade levels.
\r\n\"For some people if somebody laughs, they're going to laugh, too,\" Saylor said. \"So in the morning we just say jokes because we want to make people smile in the morning to get their day going good.\"
\r\nHer bubbly personality and smiling demeanor also serve her well in another role: Husky Helper. Saylor is one of the students who welcomes newcomers to Hidenwood, makes them feel comfortable and serves as their first friend in the school.
\r\nSaylor gets acquainted with students by exchanging answers to a list of five questions and then goes from there.
\r\n\"I like knowing their names, their favorite food, seeing when their birthday is,\" Saylor said. \"I like surprising people. My favorite part about Husky Helpers is showing them around the school.\"
\r\nLeading tours gives her many opportunities to greet, chat and check in with students and teachers. She likes meeting new people and catching up with those she already knows.
\r\nAfter going through Kindergarten during the COVID-19 pandemic, Saylor has attended Hidenwood for four years. She makes the most of each school day's opportunities.
\r\n\"I like seeing my friends; I like playing with them at recess,\" Saylor said. \"Math is actually really fun. I know some kids don't like math. Math is a very good subject because I like learning.\"
\r\nSaylor's two other favorite subjects are music and physical education. She likes sports and particularly soccer and softball. As part of WE LEAP - Wonderful Extended Learning, Enrichment and Advancement Program - she participates in afterschool and Saturday academic enrichment, goes on field trips and is taking a crocheting class where she has been making bracelets.
\r\nIt's important to enjoy yourself in elementary school, Saylor said, because you get recess time and two short breaks during the school day in addition to lunch. Lunch time is great because after eating she can talk or play games with her friends.
\r\n\"You can have so many different friends if you know how to get friends,\" Saylor said.
