Start SMART in NNPS

Start Smart in NNPSHelping new teachers start on the right foot is essential. Whether new to the profession or the division, the summer months are a great opportunity to get a head start. Download Start Smart Summer Welcome Selections flyer.

In summer 2016, new teachers were invited to "Start SMART in NNPS" with a variety of learning opportunities.

  • IGNITE, our summer professional learning catalog, featured more than 70 courses. New teachers were invited to participate in the learning, including some courses specific to the needs of a new hire. Teachers collaborated to explore a variety of pertinent topics.

  • Welcome Centers were established across the division for elementary and secondary teachers. The Welcome Centers paired new teachers with current educators to get an early start on the culture, curriculum, and technology in NNPS.

Learning and Leading Academy

Learning and Leading Academy

NNPS offered a summer learning initiative for educators across the division. The Learning and Leading Academy featured over 90 course offerings throughout the summer months.

More than 1,000 new and veteran teachers voluntarily participated in face-to-face, online, and blended classes to build expertise around key focus areas. Courses were organized to support five division initiatives: Teaching & Learning, Intervention & Advancement, STEM Quest, Technology Tools, and Youth Development.

The success of the Learning and Leading Academy speaks volumes about our teachers' desire to grow and their morale about the NNPS mission!

iSTEM Innovation Institute

iSTEM Innovation Institute

NNPS is committed to developing STEM expertise. A group of teachers are participating in a STEM graduate program in collaboration with NIA and McDaniel College to explore the practical applications of this instructional pedagogy. Learning cohorts have been formed across the division to extend this unique opportunity to more teachers beyond the graduate cohort.

The institute has been a huge success with nearly 50 teachers participating from 15 different schools. Plans are underway to expand the iSTEM Innovation Institute across grades and levels.

Teachers work together to enhance their classroom knowledge of STEM learning and hands on activities.
