- Dutrow Elementary School The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) was founded in Switzerland in 1968. The IB program has three fundamentals: effective communications in more than one language, interdisciplinary learning, and an appreciation for global cultures. The high-school IB program at Warwick High is two years in duration and offers pre-IB and IB classes. Students have to apply to attend the program, and there are prerequisites: successful completion of algebra, a year of a foreign language, and an advanced integrated language arts class – all with grades of B or better. Students have to have teacher recommendations and at least a 3.0 grade point average. Applications (and requests for transfers, if the student’s zoned school is different) are due in January for the following school year. For more information about the Warwick program, call 591-4700, ext. 1000, or Warwick's IB Web site. The Middle Years Program at Passage Middle School requires students to take classes in eight subject areas: English literature, a foreign language, social studies, science, math, arts, health and physical education, and technology. The program is designed to help students develop the knowledge, understanding, attitudes, and skills necessary to participate actively and responsibly in a changing world. Dutrow Elementary was designated an IB World school in 2006. All students at Dutrow are enrolled in the IB Primary Years Program. The school’s open "pod" layout lends itself to the IB program’s interdisciplinary approach. A global outlook is reflected in Dutrow’s language program, whose goal is to help every student read, write, and speak Spanish fluently by the end of the fifth grade. Point Option
