McIntosh students chat with First Lady

(03/31/2014) -Students in Brie Morris' second-grade classroom at McIntosh Elementary School got to spend a little virtual time with first lady Michelle Obama after their question was chosen for an iReport segment on CNN. Mrs. Obama, in China for a week-long diplomatic visit, answered a question posed by the students, who wanted to know whether Malia and Sasha Obama travel overseas with their parents or have to stay home to attend school.

Morris asked her students what they thought Mrs. Obama's response would be, and the students overwhelmingly chose staying at home to attend school as their answer. Mrs. Obama agreed that "Education comes first," but said her daughters were with her in Beijing because school was on break.

She counseled the second-graders to study hard and listen to their teacher, and encouraged the students to travel because "It makes you better people and smarter people, and it's a lot of fun, too." Before signing off, she also advised them to eat their vegetables.

The segment, which was posted on March 24, is on CNN's website.
