Wade Beverly, Supervisor of Maintenance for Newport News Public Schools, was named Virginia School Plant Manager of the Year by the Virginia School Plant Management Association (VSPMA).
Beverly was selected for the honor because of his commendable efforts and contributions to Newport News Public Schools and the school plant manager profession. NNPS Superintendent Ashby Kilgore said Beverly's "work ethic, extensive knowledge of building best practices, practical approach to implementing solutions and his talent in bringing out the best work in others combine to make Wade a unique leader and asset to our school division."
Beverly has worked for NNPS for 24 years in numerous positions in the Plant Services department including carpenter, landscape shop supervisor and environmental health and safety supervisor. "It's not every day a person has the opportunity to make such a dramatic difference in so many lives. From building renovations/improvements to general facilities maintenance, I am proud to be a part of a committed team that strives to provide an environment for staff and students that are comfortable, safe, healthy and clean," said Beverly.
Beverly will represent Virginia and is eligible for the National School Plant Manager of the Year award, which will be announced in March 2018 at the National School Plant Management Association conference.
VSMPA's mission is to "support and enhance the instructional process," paying attention to learning environments, education for educational facilities professionals and networking amongst members to continually improve management, maintenance, energy management, housekeeping and environmental control within school divisions.
