NNPS adjusts school calendar

With the second round of snowfall the week of January 15, students in Newport News Public Schools have missed seven days of school due to weather and road conditions. To address the additional missed instructional time, Newport News Public Schools has adjusted the school calendar: President's Day will become an instructional day and the two half days in March will be full days for all students.

  • As previously announced, Monday, January 29, will be a regular school day for all students. The date was originally a Professional Development Day for staff. Friday, January 26, will remain a teacher work day; students do not report to school.

  • Monday, February 19 (President's Day), will be a regular school day for all students. The date was initially a holiday for students.

  • Friday, March 9, and Friday, March 30, will be full days for all students. These dates were originally half days for all students.

State law requires all public school students to attend school 180 days or receive 990 instructional hours in any school year. With the added instructional time, NNPS students will fulfill the state requirement for instructional hours.
