Deer Park and Hilton earn Excellence Awards

Deer Park Elementary and Hilton Elementary earned a 2018 Virginia Board of Education Excellence Award for exceeding all state and federal accountability standards, making significant progress toward goals for increased student achievement and expanding educational opportunities.
To earn the Board of Education Excellence Award, elementary schools must be fully accredited, exceed federal accountability standards in reading and mathematics, and have a significant number of students demonstrate advanced proficiency and proficiency on all Standards of Learning tests. Schools also earn bonus points towards the award for the percentage of students passing the third and fifth grade state reading assessments, and student participation in the Governor's Nutrition and Physical Activity Program.
Deer Park and Hilton are among 133 schools in the state to earn the award for student achievement in 2018. This recognition marks the ninth time that Deer Park has earned recognition in this program; Hilton has earned recognition six times in the statewide program.
