New teachers welcomed and celebrated at NNPS

Posted: September 5, 2018

Newport News Public Schools welcomed over 260 new teachers this school year. Throughout the summer, new teachers had the opportunity to meet with curriculum specialists in small group settings to learn about the culture and expectations at NNPS at our New Teacher Welcome Centers. The teachers were introduced to instructional technology, curriculum and the NNPS learning environment.

New teachers began a week before returning teachers, and during that week they were welcomed at their school, received staff development, and received extra time to setup their classrooms. New teachers also received a day of training with Human Resources to learn about benefits, licensure and retirement, as well as the Curriculum Department to learn more about instruction and curriculum in NNPS.

Before the new school year began, these new educators were celebrated at a New Teacher Welcome Breakfast at Woodside High School. Superintendent George Parker, III, NNPS Teacher of the Year Chief Master Sergeant Chris Rambali, as well as other leaders, administrators and elected officials offered words of wisdom and encouragement during the welcome breakfast.
