Woodside High principal announces departure

Posted: September 6, 2018

Jonathan Hochman, principal of Woodside High School, announced his departure today. Hochman has accepted a position as principal of West Point High School, a school closer to his family home.

"It is with mixed feelings that I announce my decision. Newport News Public Schools has been my home for 19 years. I grew up here, went to school here and followed my father into education," said Hochman. "I have truly enjoyed being a part of the NNPS team but this new venture gives me the opportunity to work closer to home, to be more involved with my family."

Hochman has served as principal of Woodside High School since July 2014. He has spent most of his career in Newport News having served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal.

An interim principal will be named before Hochman's last day on September 28, 2018. The school division will begin the recruitment process for a new principal in the coming weeks.
