Posted: January 7, 2020
The Newport News School Board is hosting a public hearing to seek input on the academic plan/assignment of students who reside in the former Huntington Middle School attendance zone at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Marshall Early Learning Center, 743 24th Street in Newport News.
The School Board invites public comment on how the school division can best serve the students residing in the original Huntington Middle School attendance zone. Three proposals are under consideration, beginning with the 2020-2021 school year:
Proposal 1: Maintain current plan which assigns rising 6th grade students (current 5th grade students) to Crittenden and Hines middle schools
Proposal 2: Reassign rising 6th grade students to Huntington Middle School at Heritage High School
Proposal 3: Reassign rising 6th grade students to Huntington Middle School at Newsome Park Elementary School; this proposal also moves rising first grade students from Newsome Park to Marshall Early Learning Center
