SPARK Student Intern Opportunities

SPARK, the Summer Program for Arts, Recreation and Knowledge, joins Newport News Public Schools with local businesses, museums, non-profit organizations and city agencies to provide an engaging menu of offerings for students four days a week during the summer. Program Overview: SPARK, the Summer Program for Arts, Recreation and Knowledge, is a partnership between Newport News Public Schools and corporate, non-profit and city organizations which work together to provide an engaging menu of offerings for kindergartners through high school students. The SPARK program will operate city-wide during the Summer of 2019. The SPARK program provides extended learning opportunities to participants and enrichment opportunities which focus on academics, leadership, physical fitness, mentoring, art, music, dance and more.

Job Description: Selected students will work 7 hours daily (includes lunch), Monday through Thursday, at an assigned program site during scheduled work hours. Current NNPS students, ages 16 and over, former SPARK employees, and former NNPS students who are currently enrolled in undergraduate studies are eligible for this position. Job duties will include providing support and encouragement to program participants, assisting staff members, and participating in recreational activities, mentoring, and field trips.
