Youth Asset Building
Newport News Public Schools students, staff, and families are committed to STAND Together for Youth.
The Youth Development Department encourages students to grow to their full potential by providing supportive relationships, meaningful opportunities, and access to services that help them graduate college, career, and citizen-ready.
We understand that students are faced with many challenges and need support for various reasons. NNPS supports students through academic tutoring, mentoring, crisis support, and assistance for a variety of social and emotional needs. For example, we provide support for students dealing with homelessness, family conflict, or whose parents are deployed.

We work to engage students beyond the classroom by actively encouraging them to join clubs, activities, and organizations based on their interests. These organizations allow students to build on and highlight their strengths and learn about social responsibility. We offer more than 300 diverse student involvement options, from robotics, to Ultimate Frisbee, to Model United Nations!More about Student Involvement
Student empowerment opportunities are designed to build college, career, and citizen-readiness in all students. Newport News Public Schools encourages students to design and lead clubs, projects, and activities which not only provide an opportunity for self-development, but which also promote a positive school culture and discourage harassing behaviors.More about Student Empowerment
