What do you most love about teaching?
I enjoy the excitement I see in my students’ eyes when they are successful in a skill with which they have struggled.  The confidence they gain in themselves and their abilities is contagious.

What is the best way to describe your classroom on a typical day?
I would describe my classroom as a community of learners who encourage and support each other.  My students spend each day working together, whether they are partner reading or collaborating on a “problem”.  Our routines and transitions are so explicitly taught at the beginning of the school year that students transition from one activity to another (most days) effortlessly.  They know what to expect and I think that improves the comfort level of my students.

Why do you love working in NNPS?
I am most impressed with the way our NNPS curriculum provides opportunities for students to explore and problem solve through morning experiences and performance-based assessments.  Students learn so much more when given a chance to discuss with each other what they have learned, what worked, and what didn’t.  Together they are able to explore other options.

What do you most love about teaching?
I always remind myself that the reason I became a teacher was to better the lives of the children that are put in my care. I make it my goal each school year to end the year having not only guided my students in reaching end of grade level standards, but also teaching them how to be kind, caring and helpful members of society. I constantly strive to “model the way” for my students and teach them to do the same with each other. Every time I see them being kind to one another, helping others, or being a leader, I feel as if I am one step further towards success. It is that feeling of satisfaction that makes it all worth it!

What is the best way to describe your classroom on a typical day?
If you were to walk into my classroom on an average day you would see structure, hard work and independence. I am a solid believer in creating a structure and having a defined schedule that you maintain and stick to. My students know what we do daily as well as when to do it. You would see my students helping one another as well as themselves. I try my hardest to help my students develop a sense of independence. If it’s something they can do or answer themselves, I do not do it or answer it for them! I have very high expectations for my students and I teach them to expect more of themselves as well as their peers. My class functions as a team because I always work to establish a strong sense of community within the classroom. We are successful because we have respect for each other, are kind to one another and support each other in all we do!

Why do you love working in NNPS?
I love working for NNPS because I am constantly being pushed to better myself as a teacher! NNPS has provided me with so many opportunities for advancement and growth. It is with these opportunities that I know I am reaching and teaching my students truly to the best of my ability with the best resources in my hands! I also love the sense of community and collaboration. It is wonderful to know that I always have somewhere to go or look if I ever have any questions or concerns!
