What do you most love about teaching?
I enjoy the excitement I see in my students’ eyes when they are successful in a skill with which they have struggled.  The confidence they gain in themselves and their abilities is contagious.

What is the best way to describe your classroom on a typical day?
I would describe my classroom as a community of learners who encourage and support each other.  My students spend each day working together, whether they are partner reading or collaborating on a “problem”.  Our routines and transitions are so explicitly taught at the beginning of the school year that students transition from one activity to another (most days) effortlessly.  They know what to expect and I think that improves the comfort level of my students.

Why do you love working in NNPS?
I am most impressed with the way our NNPS curriculum provides opportunities for students to explore and problem solve through morning experiences and performance-based assessments.  Students learn so much more when given a chance to discuss with each other what they have learned, what worked, and what didn’t.  Together they are able to explore other options.

What makes NNPS a great school division?
NNPS is a great school division because they believe in all their students, teachers, faculty, and staff. There are numerous opportunities for growth for everyone. The district has a growth mindset!

Why are you passionate about supporting fellow teachers?
I am passionate about supporting fellow teachers because I have been there! I have practiced trial and error. I have struggled with tough behaviors, classroom management, finding strategies that work for each new class—you name it. Some days, I need support, too. We can all learn from each other.

What is the best way to describe your classroom on a typical day?
The best way to describe my classroom on a typical day is to imagine a beehive. We have a collective schedule and end goals in mind, but everyone has their own job— doing what they need to be successful. We are learning nonstop!
