What do you most love about teaching?
I absolutely love being able to share in the "aha" moments that students get when they are allowed to explore concepts and ideas on their own or with a peer. Children get so excited about their learning when they are encouraged to investigate, create, and collaborate.

Why are you passionate about supporting fellow teachers?
All of us are smarter when we work together. I learn new things all the time by collaborating with other teachers. I know that as educators we all need to continually grow and refine our craft. Collaborating with my fellow teachers is one of the best ways for this to happen.

Why do you love working in NNPS?
Newport News Public Schools is a large system that seems like a small family. After a few years of working in NNPS, you begin to know fellow educators at other schools. I have found so many people who are friendly, hardworking, caring, and passionate about teaching. My colleagues in NNPS continually inspire me to be a better teacher. I would like to do the same for others.

What do you most love about teaching?
There is so much I love about teaching! Most of all, I love watching the students blossom throughout the school year. I also love doing project-based learning and having a student-centered classroom! This allows me to honor the students' voice, choice, and learning style. They are able to show their learning through their talents and passions, and this helps them to make meaningful connections to the real world.

Why are you passionate about supporting fellow teachers?
I am passionate about supporting fellow teachers because I remember what it felt like to be a new teacher. I did my student teaching at Magruder Primary and Epes Elementary, and I remember feeling an outpouring of support from teachers at all grade levels. I hope that I can provide my fellow teachers with the same feeling. Also, I love to collaborate with teachers! It helps me to get ideas, and it gives me time to reflect on my classroom practices.

Why do you love working in NNPS?
I love working for NNPS because I am a product of NNPS! As a student, NNPS prepared me for college. As a teacher, NNPS allows me to explore my talents, passions, and abilities in the classroom. NNPS also has provided me with a plethora of opportunities for growth and professional development. NNPS rocks!
