What do you most love about teaching?
Teaching gives me the opportunity to love, motivate, and nurture students. I can open my arms to students in September and watch them grow like flowers academically, socially, and physically. Watching this metamorphosis is priceless. Teaching also gives me the opportunity to share my passion for reading and writing. That is why I teach!

Why are you passionate about supporting fellow teachers?
I once heard this quote, which always reminds me of supporting my fellow teachers. "We are all but grains of sand and when we work together we can create beautiful things." We teach our students to listen to, support and encourage one another, and we should do the same with each other.

What is the best way to describe your classroom on a typical day?
When you walk into my class on a typical day, it is warm, caring, and respectful. You will see students interacting and engaged in reading, writing and hands-on activities. It is also a risk-free space where students are respected by me, the teacher's assistant, and their peers. Finally, there is a lot of love in my classroom and it shows.

Why are you passionate about supporting fellow teachers?
As educators, we are always learning and growing to better help our students. I like to support other teachers so they may grow to better help their students, as well as their fellow teachers. I have always been supported as an educator and would like others to have the same support.

What two words best describe you as a teacher?
I would describe myself as a caring and growing teacher. I would describe myself as caring because I care for each of the students in my class whether they are currently in my class or have been in my class in the past. I am invested in their social abilities, as well as their academic abilities. I would describe myself as growing because no matter how long I have taught, there are always new strategies to learn or better ways to help my students. I will continue to grow and become a better teacher each year.

Why do you love working in NNPS?
I love working in Newport News because I feel supported by my fellow teachers and the members of the curriculum and development team. I also love the amount of professional development opportunities given through the district. Being able to grow as an educator is an important part of teaching.
