The Newport News Public Schools' Transportation Team was recognized and thanked during a special commemoration on October 22 at the new Transportation facility. More than 250 transportation team members were joined by the School Board, state Department of Education officials, and representatives from Blue Bird Corporation, ROUSH CleanTech, the Propane Education and Research Council and Phillips Energy, Inc.

The event also marked the delivery of the Blue Bird Corporation's milestone 15,000th propane bus, which the school division received to much fanfare. Newport News Public Schools' bus fleet includes 62 propane buses, which are engineered to deliver fuel and maintenance cost-saving results while reducing harmful emissions.

After officially accepting the propane bus, the Propane Education and Research Council presented the school division with a Clean Energy Innovation Award for its leadership in lowering emissions and promoting a healthier environment by adopting clean, propane autogas school buses.

The NNPS transportation team safely transports over 23,000 students to and from school each day; and maintains 335 buses and 150 support vehicles.
