Important Update About Face Masks for NNPS Staff

Posted: March 1, 2022

On Monday, February 28, the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) revised its FAQs regarding employee mask use in accordance with the new CDC guidelines

Beginning Wednesday, March 2, 2022, the wearing of face masks will be optional for all non-health services NNPS employees who are fully vaccinated and up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccine. Masks will also be optional for classroom volunteers, in-school tutors and substitutes who are fully vaccinated and up-to-date on their vaccine.

All Health Services employees must continue to wear a face mask due to possible exposure to COVID-19 during their job responsibilities. In addition, all employees working in the COVID isolation room must continue to wear face masks.

Individuals with COVID-19 symptoms, a positive COVID test or who have been exposed to someone with COVID should wear a face mask and follow isolation and quarantine guidelines.

NNPS employees who are not fully vaccinated or up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccine must continue to wear a mask.

Newport News Public Schools remains committed to the health and wellbeing of all students, staff and visitors. Disposable masks will be available to individuals who need or request one.

Masks are still encouraged to minimize the risk of transmission of COVID-19.
