Woodside High Odyssey of the Mind team advances to World Competition
(04/14/2017) -One of Woodside High School's two Odyssey of the Mind teams earned top honors at the state competition in April and will advance to the World Finals Competition at Michigan State University in May. Congratulations to the Woodside team, which earned first place in the "To Be Continued: A Superhero Story" problem.
The team from Woodside successfully portrayed the "To Be Continued: A Superhero Cliffhanger" problem that challenged the team to "rescue" creativity. An unexpected superhero is put into three situations where creativity must be saved in some way. The superhero had to change appearance when it displayed its superpowers and go back to blending in when not saving creativity. The team's performance also had to include a clumsy sidekick, a nemesis character, a choreographed battle and a cliffhanger ending.
Six Odyssey of the Mind teams represented NNPS at the state competition. Teams from Greenwood Elementary, Passage Middle, Denbigh High, Warwick High and two teams from Woodside High competed in the problem-solving event; all teams earned a tenth place finish or higher.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.
