Additional Food Assistance for All NNPS Families

Posted: October 1, 2020

All Newport News Public Schools families will receive additional Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) assistance to purchase food items anywhere SNAP benefits are accepted. As part of a plan approved by the USDA, Virginia has received authorization to provide this benefit for students who are learning virtually.

Families with students currently enrolled in NNPS, who received the P-EBT benefit this past spring or summer, will receive these additional benefits on their existing P-EBT card or SNAP EBT card. Newly enrolled families will receive a P-EBT card by mail.

Families who lost or no longer have their card, should call 1-866-281-2448 to request a replacement card. Please note that you must allow 7-10 business days for mail processing.

The new benefit will be issued between September 30 and October 15, 2020. Families will receive $5.86 per NNPS student for each school day in September (about $99 per student).

Participation in this program is voluntary. If you choose not to participate in the program, you may dispose of the card by following the attached instructions.

If you have questions about P-EBT or want more information, please visit the DSS P-EBT webpage (en espanol) to submit your question and receive a response.
