Student Conduct and Discipline

The Office of Student Conduct and Discipline provides leadership, guidance, and support to schools in promoting safe, supportive, and equitable learning environments. The office oversees the implementation and interpretation of student conduct policies and procedures, provides consultation and support regarding administrative student discipline concerns, and oversees alternative educational placements and services resulting from student conduct matters. This includes the Student Success Program (SSP), an alternative to short-term suspension that provides students with academic instruction, behavioral support, and opportunities to address the behaviors that resulted in disciplinary action while maintaining their connection to learning. The office also oversees CAMP (Changing and Modifying Perceptions), Student Court Support Services, and Virginia Tiered Systems of Supports (VTSS), coordinating services and interventions that address student behavior and promote successful outcomes. Through these efforts, the office works to ensure disciplinary responses are consistent, supportive, and aligned with the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students across Newport News Public Schools.

Rights & Responsibilities: A Handbook for Students & Parents

This handbook contains useful information for the students and families of Newport News Public Schools including required notices, permission forms and the Student Code of Conduct. Families are encouraged to review the contents of this handbook with their students and keep it as a reference throughout the school year.
