At-Home Summer Learning Opportunities

Newport News Public Schools is proud to offer Summer Learning Activities to keep students engaged in learning throughout the summer.
Elementary School Students
The Summer Learning Portal will keep students in preschool through 5th grade engaged in learning throughout the summer. The portal includes 8 weeks of reading, writing, math and social-emotional activities (PK only) for students in preschool through 5th grade.
Families have the flexibility to choose when, where and how much their children engage in learning: 1 week, 5 weeks or all 8 weeks, it's up to you!
Have fun exploring the portal and designing a summer learning experience that's just right for you and your child!
Go to the Elementary Summer Learning Portal for more information. (en español)
Participation in this summer learning program is optional and self-paced; your child will not turn in any of the completed activities to their teachers. All educational activities are free, downloadable and adaptable. Â
Middle and High School Students
All students in grades 6-12 will have an opportunity to continue learning through independent virtual learning experiences using NNPS computer-based programs.
Secondary Summer Virtual Learning begins on July 5. Middle and high school students can work independently to extend their learning, set learning goals, ask questions, and receive feedback from a live facilitator via Zoom on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.ÃÂ
Students must register by June 24 to participate. For more information and to register, visit the Secondary Summer Virtual Learning. (en español)
All students who complete the Summer Virtual Learning program will be invited to attend a virtual celebration and they will receive a certificate.
