School Board adjusts school calendar to give teachers more planning days

Posted: December 15, 2022

During its December 13th meeting, the School Board voted to adjust the 2022-2023 School Calendar to give teachers additional unencumbered planning days. The following dates are now dedicated teacher planning days (students do not report):

  • Monday, January 2, 2023
  • Monday, March 13, 2023, and
  • Monday, April 10, 2023

Additionally, Wednesday, April 19, which was originally a half-day, is now a full instructional day for students.

Each of the new planning days follows a student holiday to minimize the impact on families.

After receiving input from administrators and teachers, the Teaching and Learning Department requested the addition of three teacher planning days to give instructional staff the opportunity to plan for instruction and use just-in-time data to analyze where students are and what strategies need to be readjusted to support students and ensure their academic success.

The NNPS Calendar Committee reviewed the request and supported the revisions to the 2022-2023 calendar. The revised calendar remains in compliance with the state's requirement of 990 hours of instructional time.
