Two Newport News Public Schools teachers earned W!se Gold Star Teacher Awards for 2019-2020.
Michael Bellamy, administrative assistant at Crittenden Middle School, and Tiffanie Smith, career and technical education teacher at Heritage High School, were honored for the performance of students they taught in Newport News Summer School. These veteran teachers led their summer students to a 93% passing rate on the W!se Financial Literacy Education Test.
The recognition is presented by Working in Support of Education (W!se), an educational organization dedicated to building financial literacy, fostering business and social entrepreneurship, and preparing students for college and the global workplace. The organization's literacy certification program provides high school students with financial education and the opportunity to become certified financially literate. Students learn about personal finance then they take the W!SE standardized Financial Literacy test, a nationally recognized certification.
