Additional Food Assistance for All NNPS Families

Posted: March 18, 2021

Over the next few days, all Newport News Public Schools families will receive additional Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) assistance to purchase food items anywhere SNAP benefits are accepted. As part of a plan approved by the USDA, Virginia has received authorization to provide this benefit for students who are learning virtually and in-person.

Families with students currently enrolled in NNPS, who received the P-EBT benefit earlier this school year will receive these additional benefits on their existing P-EBT card or SNAP EBT card. Newly enrolled families will receive a P-EBT card by mail.

The Virginia Department of Social Services began releasing benefits on March 17 retroactively for October and November 2020, and on March 20, the department will release benefits for the months of December and January. Beginning in March, monthly P-EBT benefits of up to $121.40 per student will be released on the 25th of each month through July 25, 2021.

Families who lost or no longer have their previously issued card, should call ConnectEBT at 1-866-281-2448 to request a replacement card. Please watch closely for this mailing, as the outside envelope may not clearly indicate P-EBT information.
Participation in this program is voluntary. If you choose not to participate in the program, you may dispose of the card by following the attached instructions.

For additional information, families may contact the P-EBT Call Center Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 866-513-1414 or 804-294-1633. Families may also use the online P-EBT inquiry form: https://vdss-prod-ct.dynamics365portals.us/ebt-land/

Delay in Printing New P-EBT Cards: If you have requested a replacement P-EBT card or are awaiting the arrival of your first P-EBT card, the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) has informed the school division of a delay in printing and mailing. The VDSS is working with the vendor to get the cards printed and mailed as fast as possible, but new cards could take an additional four weeks to arrive.
