Aviation Academy Students Accepted to Pathways Program

Posted: July 22, 2021

Bryce Spain, a junior at Denbigh High School's Aviation Academy, has been selected to participate in the Virginia Space Grant Consortium Pathways Flight Academies.

Spain joins Elrahhal Abdalla, a senior, and follows the contrail blazed by Josiah Hughes, the first graduate of the Aviation Academy to complete the Pathways program. Hughes is now a freshman at the Air Force Academy.

Participants are chosen based on their academic records, their interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and their passion for flight.

Students in the program receive rigorous flight and ground school training.

Hughes completed the program at Averett University in 2019. Abdalla and Spain will complete flight school at Rick's Aviation in Newport News.
