Registration underway for the Flying Classroom Virtual STEM Camp
Posted: July 22, 2021
Newport News Public Schools invites all rising kindergarten through 5th grade students who are not currently enrolled in SPARK to participate in the Flying Classroom virtual STEM camp Monday through Thursday, August 9-12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from the comfort of their homes via Zoom. Please note that students currently participating in SPARK are already scheduled to participate in the Flying Classroom.
Flying Classroom is a STEM based curriculum based on the global expeditions of Captain Barrington Irving, who previously held the record for the youngest person to pilot a plane around the world solo (a feat he accomplished in 2007 when he was just 23).
The Flying Classroom curriculum is full of fun and rigorous learning activities. If your child enjoys STEM based learning with hands-on experiences, this program is perfect for your child. Students will encounter high interest topics including aviation and technology advancements, and explorations with a virtual Flying Classroom teacher and a captivating packet of supplies (see attached schedules).
Due to the limited number of supply packets, the program is available on a first come, first serve basis. Registration closes Tuesday, August 3, or when filled. Families must be able to pick up their child's packet of supplies by Wednesday, August 4.
