Warwick student earns state debate title

Jan Fedyszyn, a member of the Warwick High School Debate Team, is named the Virginia High School League Class 4 Lincoln-Douglas Debate State Champion.

This debate season, Fedyszyn, a junior at Warwick, earned a top placement in regional and super regional competition - giving him the opportunity to advance to state competition.

During the state competition, he competed in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate. This year's debate topic was "In a democracy, a free press ought to prioritize objectivity over advocacy." Participants had to debate both sides.

Fedyszyn outlined the pros and cons over a series of seven dates, receiving a final score of five wins and two losses, earning him the coveted state title.
