Superintendent Dr. Michele Mitchell participated in a roundtable discussion with U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott and U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine along with other regional schools superintendents and officials on January 4 at Victory Elementary School in Portsmouth. That day, President Joe Biden announced $47 million in new federal grant awards to support investments in school infrastructure, including $5 million for Virginia schools.

The group discussed ways states, districts and communities can improve school facilities with the goal of more equitable access to healthy, sustainable and modern learning environments for all students.
