NNPS employees recognized for vital roles in keeping schools clean

Emphasizing the importance clean and welcoming school building environments have on student learning, Newport News Public Schools awarded its annual Clean School Awards for 2024 to standout custodial staff members on June 13.

Watkins Early Childhood Center's crew of Avery Boyce, Loretta Ward, Brent Carpenter and Spencer Hicks received the award for early childhood centers. Among elementary schools, the custodial team of Pamela Lucas, Latoya Frink and Jermaine McPhatter at B.C. Charles Elementary School was honored.

For middle schools, the Hines Middle School team of Janet Hall, Valarie Jefferson, Douglas Jones, Richard Willis and Monica Raynor received the award. Warwick High School's crew of Darrnell Mackey, Connie Johnson, Torreon Chatman, Sharon Battle, Darrell West, Demetrice Nelson, Ernest Bond, Antwan Lewis, Robert Hicks and Marquita Johnson was chosen for the top honor in the high school category.

For alternative schools, the Governor's Health Sciences Academy at Warwick High School custodial team of Dianne Pickett, Jeanique Allen and Dante Clanton was recognized.
