NNPS Community Relations earns 11 national awards for communications

The Newport News Public Schools Community Relations team received 11 awards when the 2024 National School Public Relations Association school communication awards were announced in June.

The team was recognized a total of 11 times in the Publications and Digital Media Excellence Awards category, including three Awards of Excellence, one Award of Merit and seven Honorable Mentions.

Awards of Excellence were in the Website category for the school division's website, in the News Release category for the press release announcing Superintendent Dr. Michele Mitchell's appointment as superintendent and the Excellence in Writing category for the feature story profiling Warwick High School Boys Basketball Coach LaTasia Robinson as the first female to coach boys basketball in the Peninsula District.

The NNPS school behavior matrix graphic received an Award of Merit in the Infographic category.

Honorable Mentions were in the Excellence in Writing category for Dr. Mitchell's School Ways column in the Oyster Pointer, Budget At-A-Glance in the Financial Publication category, NNPS SBAR Behavior Chart 2023-2024 in the Infographic category, McKinney Vento poster and Student Spotlight campaign in the Marketing Material category, NewsLines community newsletter in the Newsletter category and Accomplishments 2024 4-pager design in the Special Purpose Publication category.

Each year, NSPRA recognizes and honors those whose efforts and expertise have had a positive and lasting impact on school public relations and education as well as honors the best work in school communication, according to its website.
