Students will benefit greatly from community members who played, contributed to and supported the 4th Annual Newport News Public Schools & Newport News Education Foundation Golf Classic at Kiln Creek Golf Club and Resort on June 12.
Approximately 100 golfers spent a warm morning playing a round of golf, eating lunch and breakfast, and socializing together.
Generous financial support of the golf tournament will be used to fund the important work of the foundation, which among other initiatives sponsors the annual Salute to Success celebration of top high school students, awards the Wayne D. Lett Scholarship, provides mini-grants to teachers and fosters relationships between local business partners and the school division.
Brown Edwards Certified Public Accountants and City of Newport News Economic Development Authority provided valuable contributions by serving as Bronze level sponsors for the tournament.
The foursome of Fabian Davis, Brian Gould, Marlon McSwain and Chris Trotter placed first and Matt Boerner, Michael Leech, Aaron Miller and Brian Winterstein finished second. Jordan Shartzer was awarded Closest to the Pin and Pam Boerner won for Longest Drive.
"Thank you to all of our golfers, sponsors, Kiln Creek Golf Club and Resort, and the Newport News Public Schools team for making this another successful tournament," said Dale Mingilton, foundation and corporate partnership liaison. "We look forward to seeing you again next year."
