Four students representing the Warwick High School Governor's Health Sciences Academy’s chapter of HOSA-Future Health Professionals, competed at the HOSA International Leadership Conference June 18-21 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Rising twelfth grader Elmer Sierra-Velazquez (Pharmacology) and 2025 Warwick graduates Fernanda Bravo (Dental Terminology), Dominic Nezey (Nutrition) and Rudolph Vazquez-Lozada (Pathophysiology and National Geographic Anatomy & Physiology), along with 2025 graduate Jennifer Flores Higuera (World Health Disparities) and rising eleventh grader Faith Jackson (Behavioral Health), had placed first at the Virginia HOSA State Leadership Conference in March in their respective competition categories to qualify for the ILC.
The conference's Competitive Events Program is designed to motivate HOSA members and provide a system for recognizing the competencies developed by members through Health Science and Biomedical Science class instruction, related job training, and HOSA related activities, according to its website.
"Students spent the week engaging in leadership development activities and networking with over 14,320 future health professionals, advisors and guests, and competed alongside 12,900 of their peers from 54 chartered associations from around the world," said Warwick HOSA Advisor Michelle Desrosiers.
"Warwick HOSA students and I also had the opportunity to interact with 171 exhibitors representing universities, colleges and a broad spectrum of professional healthcare organizations, and participated in a variety of the 158 workshops offered at this event."
