More than 600 students from all schools and all grade levels in Newport News Public Schools performed at the All City Music Festival on January 9 at Christopher Newport University’s Ferguson Center for the Arts.
Selected students from various elementary, middle and high schools performed collaboratively in eight ensembles in chorus, strings and band with invited guest conductors. The event, which was open to the public, was made possible through a support grant provided by the Newport News Education Foundation and the Newport News Arts Commission.
"This is an annual event that showcases the variety of music education offerings available to NNPS students," said Katie Sheehansmith, instructional supervisor of visual and performing arts.
The chorus concert took place first in the Diamonstein Concert Hall, followed by the strings performance in the Peebles Theatre, and then the band concert in Diamonstein Hall.
