NNPS unveils new one-stop scholarship portal for students, families

Newport News Public Schools is making it easier for students and families to find money for college and beyond.
The new NNPS Scholarship Portal launched last week and lists all scholarship opportunities with their application information in one place.
"The portal is designed to make finding and applying for scholarships easier, clearer and more student-friendly than ever before," said Student Support Services Coordinator Kathy DiMarino. "The portal streamlines the process for families trying to locate financial support for postsecondary plans."
Unique features about the NNPS Scholarship Portal include:
- Scholarships are listed by application deadline, with the closest deadlines at the top of the page so nothing important gets missed
- Grade eligibility is clearly labeled within each scholarship
- Complete application details are included for every opportunity
- New scholarships are added daily, so students are encouraged to check back often
While many scholarships are geared toward seniors, all high school students and families are encouraged to explore the portal regularly. Some opportunities are available for students in grades nine through eleven, and becoming familiar with the process early can make a big difference down the road, according to officials.
College and Career Specialists at each high school will continue to add new scholarship opportunities and they, along with Professional School Counselors, will continue to be available at all times to assist students with the application process.
"This new portal reflects our commitment to providing a more accessible and user-friendly way to advertise scholarship opportunities and support students as they plan for life after high school--whether that includes college, career training, or other postsecondary pathways," DiMarino said.
"We encourage families to bookmark the page, talk about opportunities together, and return frequently as new scholarships are posted."
