NNPS student artwork on display at Downing-Gross

The Newport News Public Schools City-Wide Youth Art Show will be on display through February 21 at the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center, showcasing student artwork from across the division. The exhibition opened to the public with hundreds of family members visiting on February 7, following a special preview event on February 5 that welcomed city leaders, community partners and arts advocates.
The gallery features a wide range of student work, organized by school and teacher, representing multiple grade levels and various styles of medium. This annual exhibition highlights the strong foundations of visual arts instruction taking place throughout NNPS and celebrates the creativity, skill development and artistic voice of its students, according to Visual and Performing Arts Instructional Supervisor Katie SheehanSmith.
Visitors are welcome to visit the gallery during its normal operating hours of Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
The Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center is located at 2410 Wickham Avenue in Newport News. The Newport News Community Gallery is located on the second floor of the center.
