NNPS Public Information, Web teams earn national awards for communications

The Newport News Public Schools Public Information & Community Involvement and Web teams received numerous awards when the 2026 National School Public Relations Association school communication awards were announced last week.

The teams were recognized a total of 12 times in the Publications and Digital Media Excellence Awards category, including five Awards of Excellence, two Awards of Merit and five Honorable Mention awards.

Awards of Excellence were received three times in the Excellence in Writing category for Students' work supplies Space Station, First students in NNPS program reflect on DLI, and NNPS-TV sports announcer Nate Milton; in the Branding/Image Package category for Senior Rally: Class of 2025; and in the Video category for School Board Spotlight: January 2026.

NNPS was recognized with Awards of Merit in the Website category and in the Video category for This Just In 831: January 26, 2026.

Honorable Mention was awarded twice in the Marketing Material category for Student Spotlights and Celebrating Ella Fitzgerald Middle School, twice in the Social Media category for NNPS New Teacher Welcome Campaign and NNPS Back to School Photo Contest, and in the Newsletter category for Newsbreak: NNPS Employee Newsletter.

Each year, NSPRA recognizes and honors those whose efforts and expertise have had a positive and lasting impact on school public relations and education as well as honors the best work in school communication, according to its website.
