When Girl Scouts and Google officially launched a new national partnership for internet awareness, Warwick High School student Martha-Ann Wells served as moderator for one of the event's panels.
Wells, a tenth grader at Warwick, is a Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast Board Member and National Delegate. She moderated a panel that included Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Girl Scouts USA Chief Development Officer Meridith Maskara at Google's Washington, D.C. offices on November 4.
"I had so much fun at the Google headquarters," Wells said. "I really enjoyed being a part of the launch for an interactive program that challenges us to use our screen time wisely and smartly-to Be Internet Awesome. I was able to improve my speaking skills by being a moderator and was able to meet so many amazing Girl Scouts."
Girl Scouts and Google's new national partnership, Be Internet Awesome, is designed to help Girl Scouts build healthy digital boundaries, develop intentional online habits, and strengthen their commitment to being a force for good online, according to Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast. Representatives from the Colonial Coast, Nation's Capital and Central Maryland Girl Scouts were invited to the event, which featured interactive activity stations where Girl Scouts tackled fact-checking challenges, explored password and internet safety best practices, and engaged in hands-on digital citizenship exercises.
As part of the partnership, Girl Scouts can now earn the new Be Internet Awesome patch.
